Stonewater Supports Southern Company's New EnergyDirect Premium RT On-line Tool
Evanston, IL — July 11, 2005 — Stonewater Control Systems announced today that Southern Company, one of the largest electric utilities in the United States, has selected them to provide hardware and software technology to support Southern Company's newest online tool for business customers — EnergyDirect Premium Real Time, also known as Premium RT.
With nearly 39,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity in the Southeast, Southern Company owns five regulated retail electric utilities including Alabama Power, Georgia Power, Gulf Power, Mississippi Power and Savannah Electric. Since EnergyDirect.com's inception in 2001, Southern Company has offered increasingly sophisticated tools to business customers to analyze and track current and historical energy usage. With the new EnergyDirect Premium RT application, Southern Company can now offer customers real-time, wide-ranging consolidated information regarding their organization's account activity.
Stonewater's technology will provide Southern Company's EnergyDirect Premium RT with the following key features:
- Real-time data monitoring — interval data provided from midnight through the last 15- or 30-minute interval so customers can regulate peak demand and control costs.
- Notification alerts for sustained zero demand and demand threshold violations so customers can monitor equipment performance.
- Submetering of electric, gas, water and/or other data points to provide detailed information to customers about equipment and plant process energy consumption for cost-center accounting.
Stonewater's hardware and software enable these features to be accessed by customers over the Internet through a simple-to-use interface branded for Southern Company. Stonewater's gateway device, which is installed at the customer site, allows pulse consolidation from several energy sources to reduce communication and installation costs. Online, customers can view profiles across multiple sites, meters and data points and print reports and graphs.
"We have been a vendor to Southern Company since 2001 providing notification services for Georgia Power's curtailment programs," said Randolph Nogel, Stonewater's CEO. "Now, with real-time information, Southern Company customers get the ability to implement effective strategies that save energy and dollars."
