Stonewater's Technology Helps Power Keyspan's EMDS program

EVANSTON, IL — November 4, 2004 — Stonewater Control Systems is the applications service provider behind Keyspan Technologies' Energy Monitoring and Data Services (EMDS).

Keyspan is the largest investor-owned electric generator in New York State and operates Long Island Power Authority's electric system serving 1.1 million customers. Keyspan is also the largest distributor of natural gas in the Northeast, with 2.5 million gas customers.

EMDS is Keyspan's secure, web-based suite of solutions that maximizes energy efficiency and minimizes risk so companies can see tangible financial results. EMDS gives Keyspan's large customers the opportunity to save up to 20% of their energy costs by viewing information on the Internet in real time so they can reduce energy consumption during peak periods of the day, identify and replace inefficient equipment, and determine the most cost-effective time to begin a manufacturing process.

Keyspan uses Stonewater to provide remote monitoring, analysis and management of facilities' energy services. "The energy1st application is integral to our EMDS strategy, providing our customers with extensive energy use data with an intuitive interface," says Philip E. Clark, Keyspan's Technology Product Manager. Stonewater co-branded the web interface to integrate it to Keyspan's website.

One Keyspan customer seeing benefits from the EMDS program is New York Presbyterian's Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, a 509,000 square-foot not-for-profit teaching institution offering comprehensive health services. Implementing energy1st allowed the hospital to learn where to save on energy expenses by examining its energy profile-what it costs, how much is used, and where it is used.

Wyckoff Heights also monitors indoor air quality within the hospital including carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, humidity, temperature and volatile organic chemicals. A high level reading will trigger an alarm to key personnel so corrective steps can be taken.
